FLAKE FLOOR SYSTEM

What is it?

A flake floor system is a resinous floor coating consisting of a base coat, colored flake, a cap coat, and an optional top coat for added protection. Flake floor systems are incredibly durable, slip resistant and attractive.

Great things take time!

Our flake floor systems typically take 3-4 days to install. During this time your concrete will be profiled using a concrete grinder as well as a shot blaster. Extra time is devoted to the preparation of your concrete slab to ensure a strong bond. The products used in our flake floor system are better suited to Montana's drastic temperature swings than the products used in 1 day garage floor systems. The days spent on the installation of your flake floor system are part of the process of providing you with the most durable and longest lasting garage floor system available.

Protect Your investment!

The concrete slab in your garage is the first building block of your entire garage. Give it the protection that it needs from our harsh Montana weather. Concrete is a very strong building material, but it is prone to damage over the years. A flake floor system protects your concrete slab from staining, salt damage, and allows for easy clean up. With many different color combinations to choose from they look great also.

Durability

Flake Floors offer incredible durability due to their overall thickness and textured surface. Flake floors will protect against staining from chemicals and products found in any garage or shop. This flooring system will take years of abuse without compromise.

Maintenance

Maintenance on a flake floor system is as easy as wet or dry mopping with a PH neutral cleaner such as Simple Green!

Application Process

I grind and shot blast every floor that receives a flake floor system. Grinding reduces the high spots in the floor before being prepped with a shot blaster. Shot blasting the floor gives an aggressive profile that is completely free from dust to ensure the best bond possible between the concrete and the base coat.

To stand up to Montana’s drastic temperature swings, I use a product that is designed to withstand thermal shocks typically associated with commercial and industrial areas. This product has an expansion rate more similar to concrete than epoxy or polyurea. This reduces the stress of drastic temperature swings that we are prone to seeing in our great state of Montana.

The next step will be to broadcast the vinyl flake in the color of your choice into the base coat. I broadcast my floors to full rejection. This means that I will thoroughly cover the entire floor with more vinyl flake than the base coat is able to hold. The excess vinyl chip will then be scraped off the floor and vacuumed up. This ensures a beautiful and uniform floor.

After the excess vinyl chip has been removed, I will lightly run a floor buffer over the floor. This is an extra step that I like to take to ensure that your floor will be smooth with no sharp edges of vinyl flake protruding.

Finally, the floor is ready to apply a cap coat over top of the vinyl flake. I use a polyaspartic for this step because of its UV stable property, meaning that your floor will not amber over time due to sunlight. Polyaspartic also has a great chemical and stain resistance which ensures your floor will remain beautiful for many years.
